Special ‘Flavours of Maharashtra’ Menu Marks Anniversary
Babur, the distinguished Indian restaurant located in Forest Hill, South East London, has been honored with the “Editor’s Choice Award of Culinary Excellence” by Taste London magazine. This prestigious award recognizes Babur’s outstanding contributions to the culinary arts and its commitment to delivering an unparalleled dining experience.
Taste London’s latest issue features a rave review of Babur, celebrating the restaurant’s exceptional menu crafted by Executive Chef Jiwan Lal. Known for his innovative approach to authentic regional dishes, Chef Lal has been a cornerstone of Babur for 18 of its 39 years. His culinary expertise has earned Babur numerous accolades, including the Asian Curry Awards and the Asian Restaurant Awards.
The magazine praised Babur’s inviting ambiance, a blend of dark wood, exposed brickwork, tiles, and exotic Indian artworks. The review highlighted the restaurant’s skillful use of spices, which enhances the natural flavors of high-quality ingredients.
The review detailed a memorable dining experience with a 5-course tasting menu that showcased Babur’s culinary prowess. Standout dishes included the Swordfish tikka, Tulsi malai chicken tikka, Goat shoulder tikka, and Slow cooked mutton. Vegetarian options like the Crispy tapioca coated beetroot cutlet and Soya keema broad beans dosa were also highly praised.
In celebration of its 39th anniversary, Babur is offering a special ‘Flavours of Maharashtra’ menu from July 17th to September 15th, featuring regional dishes from Maharashtra, India’s second most populous state.
Babur’s mixologist, Rupam, was also commended for his creative cocktails, such as the ‘Currytini’ – a blend of Bombay Sapphire Gin, dry vermouth, and cordial, infused with fresh curry leaf and green chili.
Receiving the “Editor’s Choice Award of Culinary Excellence” from Taste London is a significant achievement for Babur, reflecting the dedication and passion of its team. This recognition underscores Babur’s position as a leader in fine Indian dining in the UK.
